Well you got 2 ways to go:
a) udf support (ie write-able), so check for udf write support.
b) just partition it like a hd and put a ufs partition on it.
Under linux, I've been using a Toshiba dvd-ram this way (like
a hd, with a large ext2 partition on it). UDF write support
was kind of immature when I started, so....
