Some more data points on hard drives:
I've used a couple of dozen Seagate, Fujitsu, and IBM SCSI and IDE
drives in the past couple of years. My quietest 50-pin SCSI drives were
IBM DDRS-34560 (4.3G, 7200 RPM) and DDRS-39130 (9.1G, 7200). (IBM
ATA-66 7200 RPM drives have also been fairly quiet.) Older Seagate 7200
RPM 4G Barracudas were noisiest SCSI models.
