[rescue] Accidentally destroying hardware..

Back in the black power days when damascus steel barrels were used, they
weren't cast, but rather hand forged over a mandrel that was the proper
gauge for the shotgun. The only machining was the crown at the front,
and at the breach end. (well, they probably did some polishing of the
inner & outer surfaces, but no actual machine work.
