Single attach FDDI?  Or maybe some kind of fiber channel drive
controller?  

Is the flat green PCB near the middle of the board removable?  If so,
how many pins?

It looks like an early production (or even prototype) board,
considering that someone screwed up the traces and they had to solder
wires to connect something.  Later versions of the board would have
had them spin a rev to avoid the hand work involved.

The AMD 29K series was often used as a RAID controller chip(just like
the Intel 860 and 960), which seems to indicate something to do with
drives.  A touch more resolution would let someone look up the part
numbers of the Motorola chips on the board as well.
