I get this:

Followed a a nasty little spinning -|/\ sequence.
I saw that other people posting here had the same problem
in the past, but didn't find anything that helped.
I've only ever installed Solaris 2.6 and 8.0 on Intel and
from a CD. Somebody hit me with a clue stick please,
reading /Docs/release_info/C/* hasn't helped.
I have to ping the Sparc for it to get past the configuring
devices message. (many thanks to Mike Finocchio)
tcpdump doesn't reveal anything. the install source doesn't appear
to be mounted. Is there some way of starting an install from a
directory to a hard drive ? Mounting remote file systems after
it bails is no problem.
