I just finished recompiling all of OpenBSD with -mcpu=v8 and
recompiled the lout program as well with this new optimization. I
have added the new numbers in with the original results.

NEW:
1.75s real 1.11s user 0.24s system
1.37s real 1.13s user 0.22s system
Not sure why the first run takes longer in wall time, but probably due
to disk - note that user time gets better, system about the same.
Either the timing mechanism is not good enough or there is just a
certain amount of overhead.

NEW:
2.09s real 1.80s user 0.25s system
a slight improvement, nothing major
As I said before:

Maybe Monday or Tuesday I will have some more data.
