I was able to defeat the Nvram password protection by starting my Ultra 1
w/o the boot prom, and inserting it after the message "checksum invalid",
then using the set-defaults command.

I can issue boot and probe commands just fine now, however now I get the
warning "IDPROM contents invalid". Of course this includes the MAC address.
I have installed Sol 8 and run the bootprom update with no change in this
message.

I can ping other hosts, but upper layer protocalls won't work, i.e. telnet,
http.


Any ideas? Do I need a new boot prom?
