The way I understood it, by having a remote control (that can be
removed from the machine) the monitor's settings could be setup
initially, then the remote put away, so the user(s) couldn't mess up
the display (either in a school setting, or possibly graphics that
needed to be exact, etc). But that might have just been a side benefit.
