In principle, I agree with you 100%.

In practice, it's worked for me once in the two years.  About three or
four months ago now.  And I'm still kicking myself every day for choking
on two questions I KNEW THE ANSWERS TO, DAMMIT! and almost certainly
blowing the interview.  (Though the friend who got me the interview
wouldn't say so to my face.)
