[rescue] SGI Irix / Indy question

OK, a friend plopped an Indy in front of me today and I'm beating my 
brains out trying to get into the thing. No PROM passwd, but the root 
passwd is unknown. I've tried logging in as lp, 4Dgifts, demos, tutor, 
and tour. no dice. tried booting single user from mini-boot prom, asks 
me for root password when it comes up single-user. I've tried setting 
the IP address via set netaddr 192.168.1.2 to see if any ports are 
open, but couldn't get anything to work.

I know I could probably pull the drive, mount it on a box that can read 
XFS, and edit /etc/passwd. I don't have such a box. I don't even have a 
bootable IRIX cd.

Anyone?
