Um, no. Not quite.
The American, or short, ton is 2000lb.
The metric ton, or tonne, is 1000kg, or approximately 2205lb.
The Imperial, or long, ton is 2240lb.
For those who care, the long ton is divided into 20 hundredweight (cwt)
of 112lb, divided in turn into 8 stones (st) of 14lb each. Don't ask me
why a stone is 8lb or why a hundredweight is 112lb, because I couldn't
tell you for the life of me.
