Word was a MAC product that started at version 1 and worked its way up
to 5.??? 

Word for the PC went to up version 2 before dying (it was a DOS app) and
was replaced with Word for Windows version 1 which worked its way up to
2.

At that time the next version of Word for Windows was close enough
to the MAC version that Microsoft combined them both as version 6.

At this point they are almost impossible to tell apart.
