I know Token Ring has had a poor reputation. I assumed that was because
it required more complicated gear than Ethernet in the early days. After all,
FDDI is a token-passing architecture and it works very nicely indeed, and
isn't hard to work with at all once you're familiar with the connector
types. So... how bad could Token Ring be?
The words 'misbegotten piece of sh*t' spring to mind. It looks me less
than an hour to install FDDI cards, configure the concentrator, hook
everything up, and send the first successful ping. I've just spent all day
trying to send even one packet from point A to point B via Token Ring
without any success, and I will have no more to do with it.
