[rescue] booting onyx - only mouse pointer shows

Erm, unplug the monitor, keyboard, and use a serial cable?  I'd suggest
running the onboard diagnostics before actually doing anything to the
disk.  Better yet, if you have spare disks, remove the original, and
install to a new one.  That way, just in case, you can still go back to
the old one.
