They aren't just animation.  They are also somewhat industrial
design-ish.  Their other machines product is called StudioTools.  I seem
to recall hearing that at one time virtually every major car company
used StudioTools. 

Apparently StudioTools starts off allowing you to draw sketches,
psuedo-watercolors, and it somehow helps you build that up into models
that can be fed to CAD systems.  I don't really know how it all works.

Also, they used to heavily emphasize scientific visualization, though I
don't think they still do very much.
