[rescue] Booting SATA on an old BIOS

I've been trying for the past few days to get my new SATA drive (80GB SATA150
Seagate 7200RPM Barracuda) to boot without an IDE drive in the system. My BIOS
has no settings that want to work with booting the SATA drive (it's a PCI
controller, not an on-motherboard controller).

So far, I've managed to get my BIOS a year closer to current (now it's
16/01/2003 rather than 19/07/2002), which didn't get me anything other than the
ability to boot from USB...

I really don't want to have an IDE drive in the system (other than my CD/RW and
DVD drives, that is)... For reference, here are my PC specs:
