Even though I've got a 580 in my living room, I'd have to agree with 
you.  The 5xx series of RS/6000 is just too big for its power to be 
"useful" for much more than something like a museum. I'd rather have 
something like my 3CT (basically a 390(H)) - desktop form factor with 
less memory capacity, but, it's a desktop, not a dorm fridge.

If that's $150 a pallet.... it seems a little high to me for per-system, 
there's usually a few of them on eBay at once.  The slower-than 332MHz 
43P-140s go for something on the order of $40/system.  Of course, I 
think it's worth more without the monitor... those P200's are heavy 
beasts - not the heaviest 20" monitors, but a 20" nearly-flat CRT has 
to be heavy, by definition...
