RedHat 6.1 for SPARC is THE REASON I quit using RedHat, after 5 years of
it being the main Linux distribution I put into production. I was
aghast that I'd actually paid for something that shitty and that they'd
actually -charged- for something that shitty after supposedly putting it
through some hypothetical QA process.
Yes, it sucks THAT BADLY. It's just broken beyond belief. Stuff will,
indeed, just "wedge up", even after you get it installed. I've had one
instance where (no shit), moving THE MOUSE caused it to kernel-panic. I
still have a hardcopy of that panic somewhere because it was so
unbelievable. And, to add insult to injury, one of the erratas I
installed deep-sixed my RPM database, making the system pretty much
unmanagable from then on, if I wanted to do it the RedHat way.
RedHat 6.1 on SPARC makes Windows 95 upgraded from 3.1 on a Pentium
"TX Pro" look rock-solid stable.
