  R2000 / R3000     ->    MIPS1
  R4x00             ->    MIPS3
  R5000             ->    MIPS4
  R8000             ->    MIPS4
  R10000            ->    MIPS4

  SGI compilers also support MIPS2 on R4000 which more or less seems
  to be mips3 without 64bit support.
