This sounds very much like you were sent to Brick Lane. From what I can
gather, it must have been good in the past to get the reputation, but the
quality has declined as it went upmarket and caters to people who want fancy
service rather than good food.
Handily, I live near Bradford now where I can visit Karachi[0]. Imagine a
transport cafe, complete with menus on the wall, Formica tables, and AM
radio on in the background. But the food is *excellent* and cheap.
