I'd strongly suggest taking the dual 933MHz P3s.

For automated ripping, I made very good experiences with grip[1],
just put the CDs in, choose "Rip+Encode" and it automatically rips
with cdparanoia, encodes the WAVs with LAME and looks for titles
in a Internet DB, mostly freedb.

I don't think an 8-way SuperSPARC could match the throughput of
a dual P3, although it would make nice use of the SPARCserver.
