Yes, you are correct.  I have them up on blocks.

I don't know if this is common, or Sun approved, and I don't have any
temperature figures to back it up, but like I said it works for me
and they run fine.  If I had 8 or 9 of them like this they would
take up the same amount of rack space either way and it would be easier
to pull one out for maintenance.  :)
