Only modern light bulbs are thin glass.  Have you ever seen carbon 
filament bulb?  They still have some in the Cornell church.  They burn 
with a cool orange glow and never burn out.

Also most graduated cylinders are narrower than a light bulb... unless 
you have a 1 or 2L grad cylinder... mucho expensive and hard to make at 
the time.
