ISTR it used to work on at least on PPC at some time
(http://www.csee.wvu.edu/~katta/uml/x128.html) in addition to x86 and
maybe something more. No Sparc AFAIK since no Sparc hacker has taken
time to port it. Maybe someone here wants to do it?
http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/arch-port.html are the
instructions on porting UML. Hmm, there seems to be something already,
http://www.csee.wvu.edu/~katta/uml/ is about a half-done sparc64 port.
About the overhead - it used to be bad for syscalls with tracing thread
but got much better with SKAS (separate kernel address spaces - this
fixes security and gets sycall overhead to 2 context switches). It's
quite good and much faster than vmware (as expected).
