Not clear whether you're talking about your specific unit or in general, but
in general they certainly could take disks. Unlike later pizza boxes, they
are two-slot VME chassis, but it's hard to tell from outside because the
rear panel of the CPU board is two slots wide. The second slot takes a 9U
expansion board which may or may not have memory on it depending on the part
number, and provides connections for a 6U board. The 6U board could be SCSI
(the very common "SCSI-2" board usually found in a 6U-to-9U frame in VME
Sun-3's) or a Sky FFP ("Fast Floating Point") board. I've never gotten an OS
onto mine yet but it can see the SCSI controller and disk.

Also, as far as I know, there's nothing preventing one from taking the 2/50
CPU board and putting it in a larger VME chassis to use standard 9U VME
boards. I don't believe the ROMs have been crippled, although I really
haven't looked.
