Western Digital says that affected drives are "WD drives with capacities 
between 40GB & 120GB" and "WD drives with greater than 120GB capacity with 
Mfg. date codes earlier than 3/25/03".

I bought Promise because I needed a six-channel IDE RAID that could do a 
two-drive RAID 1 and a three-drive RAID 5 with one hot spare, and at the 
time 3ware didn't have a product that filled that segment (I had also 
heard rumors of 3ware exiting the RAID marketplace, which turned out not 
to be the case).

Yes, Promise does suck and I will never buy them again.  But WD sucks as 
well.
