I have to admit: I am no LISPler. Some friends are and they say that the
Symbolics environement was / is the pinnacle of Lisp IDEs.

The same for the Symbolics machines. They have a M68k FEP (Front End
Processor) that loads the microcode into the CPU at boot time. This way
you can define new machine instructions if you need them.
