All they've done is confirmed the ABI for the other architecture
currently supported by XCode 2.1. There's no reason to believe that
Apple will restrict themselves to just those two. I gather that OSX
may also be built internally for MIPS and SPARC. (It'd be fun to run
OSX on my Ultra 30.)
Besides, the 64 bit support on OSX is only with the BSD API. Cocoa is
32 bit only. So it is quite possible that you'll compile your
memory-hungry performance apps for x86-64 and your point-and-drool
front end for it for plain x86.
