Speaking of 0-100 and records, often people assume that if it is small
and European it must be slow and old. Of course the Astons, because of
the current supercar are probably not included in that, however,
looking at the more "pedestrian" brands, there's all kinds of
misconceptions.
Now, before the recent Audis at Le Mans, the mere mention of diesel
created a wave of laughter, but one could learn from history:
In 1965, a Peugeot 404 convertible with a custom bubble top, using the
1.9L diesel engine from the sedan (only 68bhp) ended up breaking over
40 endurance and speed records, including sustaining an average of
>100mph for 48 hours!

Now, THAT would be quite a rescue! (although i'm afraid that no
computers were harmed in the making of the 404 Record).
