YMMV.  I won't use my Matias on a hard desk surface without something
to deaden the sound under it.  The thing has a very distinctive "ping"
to the key action--more so than even the IBM Model M I used to use.

At $ork, I have a very, very similar feel/sounding keyboard as the
Model M.  It has a split space bar that can be configured via a simple
"chord" action on the keyboard itself (rather than fiddling with OS
settings).  The feature is called "Erase-Ease".  It appears to be of
Windows '95 vintage.

Manufacturer: NMB Technologies, Inc. of Chatsworth, CA (though the top
of the keyboard is labled BTG, Incorporated)

They no longer make these mechanical keyboards, but since they are
probably less well known than the IBM's and Northgate's, they might be
something to look for on ePay, WierdStuff, or other surplus sellers.
