Those PET bottles tend to either just split down one side, or burst into
two or three large pieces, though, not shatter into hundreds of
razor-edged shards.
(Incidentally, Mythbusters blew up a five-gallon PET water bottle while
busting the water-rocket jet-pack myth. IIRC, it took about 180PSI,
call it 12 atmospheres, before it ruptured.)
