The Toshiba SCSI DVD-ROM family is a sure shot. These 50-pin
single-ended SCSI drives are tray-loaded, not slot-loaded, and were
also shipped by Sun as original equipment in the SCSI-based Sun Blades
and Sun Fires--hence our seemingly lopsided knowledge of them, I
suppose :)

Toshiba SD-M1401 / Sun 390-0025 <=Rev. -02: 10x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-ROM
Toshiba SD-M1711 / Sun 390-0025 >=Rev. -03: 12x DVD-ROM, 48x CD-ROM

The Sun version of the drive features a medium-grey bezel instead of
light-grey to match case plastics of the era, and Sun firmware to
ensure compatibility with Sun controllers and boot media. The Sun
version will work just fine in a PC, and either can consistently be
had on eBay for $25ish plus shipping, sometimes less... provided you
steer far away from those insane three-figure "Buy-It-Now" / "eBay
Store"  prices posted by the resellers.
