Not as much a problem if you think about it. There were two "cheap" Macintosh
computers released at the same time. The Classic, which was an SE at half
the price and limited to 4m of RAM due to ROM limitations, and the LC
which had a much faster processor and was limited to 10m of RAM.
It was HALF the price of the closest Macintosh II and since it had a
68020 would not run virtual memory. 

The cost of an 8 meg RAM update was almost half the price of the computer,
not many people bought them. Later as memory went down in price, they 
became common. 

Wasn't a SPARC Pizza box around $10,000 at least 5 times the price of
an LC?
