Cool trick, I hadn't ever know of that before. A paper clip and I
got confirmation
that the host and cables are working.

That's what I tried. Still not getting any response. I'm still
getting the POST test
success LED on the board.. Is there anything else that would prevent
the serial
from producing output on the Sun 3/140? It did have an on-board B/
W video..
Or was there a jumper? I didn't see any reference to anything along
these lines
in the FEH.

Well, with the shorting experiment I think I confirmed that this is
set right (the
box only has one serial connection so I'm pretty sure it's COM1...and
the Windows
hardware list only lists the one serial port. So don't think this
is it.
I've tried setting the norm/diag switch to diag, but don't see
anything on that.
Could this be that the terminal program isn't sending a proper break
sequence??
