My SB1000 (tatung clone) has a pair of creator 3d's
in it.  I have it configured so that the "first"
display is the leftmost on my desk.  This is where
the console appears at boot, etc.

Once X is up, the second one comes on (+xinerama)
and extends my desktop.

Since I like to run with *one* monitor, often
(power savings), I have repositioned the front
panel to be located on the center of the left
monitor.  As such, I can have the text console
there *or* HALF of my X workspace or the LEFT
half of my workspace -- depending on what is
powered on.

Trick is just to use the "left" and "right"
arguments in the Xserver invocation.
