I would love to have one of those "pedestal" model VAXen; the very
first "big iron" / non-DOS-or-8bit-machine I ever touched/used was
a VAX 4000-700A. MERCUR.USAO.EDU (sadly, that hostname now just
points to a Sun box).
My very first email address was STUBRADFOWC at MERCUR.USAO.EDU. I
created and setup USAO.EDU's very first web server as my summer
"Independent Study" project in '95, after doing a "USAO Guide to
Internet Resources" (aka "Internet for Dummies, for VAX/VMS") as my
project the year before. They even sold the book in the campus
bookstore for a couple of years.
Ahh, 132-column lineprinters and greenbar paper; the Green Card Spam;
"THE INTERNET IS FULL GO AWAY", Doom on 3.5 floppies, Purity Tests
and MAJESTIC-12. 1993-1995 was fun.
