[rescue] rescuing an ailing U10...

I've inherited an Ultra 10 with a questionable past. I've swapped out
the CD-ROM drive for a newer DVD/CD-R drive, but I haven't changed
hard drives yet. When I boot, I get the following error:
===8<-----
boot device: /pci at 1f, 0/pci at 1, 1/ide at 3/cdrom at 2, 0:f File and args:
Can't read disk label.
Can't open disk label package

Can't open boot device

ok
===8<-----
I have tried:

ok setenv auto-boot? false
ok reset-all

but upon rebooting, I'm still get the original error. My guess is
that the PROM is complaining about no disklabel on the hard drive, but
I'm trying to boot a CD in order to install an OS & update the PROM.
I suspect this is remedial, but I haven't run into a lot of PROM
issues before, so my PROM foo is weak. Any suggestions would be
appreciated as I will replace the hard drive tomorrow.

Thanks.
