Which is as it should be; computer science is a theoretical discipline
(though there are far too many schools teaching what would more
honestly be called programming, or occasionally software engineering,
and mislabeling it "computer science").

Of course, acquaintance with the practice usually makes for a better
theoretician, just as acquaintance with the theory usually makes for a
better practicioner.  But in neither case is it necessary.
