If you want to hack: You can run a Sun ELC mainboard without the
monitor. It is quite small and power consumtion is only about 10 W.
(Basicly the board needs 5 V @ 2 A, +- 12 V is for the serial ports

I mounted an ELC board in a book sized external SCSI disk box and used
the folowing to generate the -12 V from the +12 V:
