In I think 1986 or '87 I got a tour of the Minnesota Supercomputer
Center at the University of Minnesota. We got a view into the machine
room from off to one side and up (a stairway? a balcony?) and I recall
seeing the familiar circular "modular furniture" shape of a Cray, and I
think the cooling tower thing, too.
Pretty sweet.
They also showed us a desktop Apple computer which was capable of --
get this! -- displaying a rotating sphere that was ALMOST SMOOTH!
