With regards to ufsdump, lately I've been using flash archive to clone
systems that are on dissimilar hardware. Most recently this has been
quite handy in the creation of branded Solaris 8 containers running on
modern Solaris 10 hosts. It's been a great way to extend the life of
legacy systems that are still required. I've also used it to clone one
Solaris 8 system to the other using the flash archive install method.
Unfortunately flarcreate is only available on Solaris 8 and newer.
