But I thought printers were different. In that case it just used them as
fast serial ports without support for the full protocol. I could be wrong
of course, but I guess we'll have to see.

Faralon used to sell a special phone net cable package with single
connection transceivers. They used phone net cable and only had one
port. I used to carry them around with my powerbook.

Otherwise I've always used the AppleTalk ones with the special cables, or
the phonenet ones that used telephone cable. The phonenet ones needed 
terminators on unused ports and I made a bunch of my own, when I bought a box
of transceivers with them missing.
