Yeah, that was what I tried it for.  Unfortunately ZFS in FreeBSD 7 was
horrifyingly unstable.  It would panic the kernel if I so much as
thought about touching the array.

I ended up pulling the 3Ware and installing a pair of 8-port LSI 3080X
cards, which Just Worked.
