it probably actually was disabled by that custom thinkpad control panel that lenovo supplied that allows bios on/off control for devices from within windows.

Either way, wouldn't that be an improvement for those who like
Trackpoints? Trackpads usually gotten in the way when using a
trackpoint - where the only good purpose is for the scroll feature.
