Because SGIs, NeXT slabs, Sun2/3s are relatively easy to get and he may
already *have* all he needs of those?

Because AlphaBooks are a lot rarer? SPARCBooks flooded the market back
in '98-99 when Herman Miller's sales people stopped using them.

I'm not condoning this guy, just saying that things like SGIs and NeXT
slabs are just about to the "come get it before I scrap it" class now.
