I try not to build anything from source on Windows that I don't
absolutely have to. I just downloaded and installed msys-git to use
it on windows. If you download github for windows, that will come
with msys-git as well.
On OSX, I would expect git to be easy to build, but I haven't bothered
since to build it you will probably install XCode, and XCode includes
a fairly recent version of git since XCode 4.
