    You should be able to reprogram the "NV"RAM with the machine-type
and have it work until you power it down again.  Give that a go.  It
sounds like you may have a runner there.  You'll need to assign it a
MAC address as well.

    If worst comes to worst, you can always hang stuff off the external
bus.
