Just be aware that OpenBSD doesn't support SMP on 32bit Sparc (yet maybe
someday if someone is feeling adventurous!)
NetBSD does support SMP on this hardware as does Linux although you'll have a
hard time building kernels small enough to boot above about Linux 3.4ish. It
might be possible to get LTO working on Sparc kernel builds to reduce the size
to manageable levels again but I don't think anyone has tried yet. NetBSD also
tends to have better graphics support due to macallan's efforts.
When I have it up gh0stwriter.net/gentoo/ has linux userland stages that sort
of work. Portage crashes with a timer overflow on my SS20 with dual SM81s.

Hi,
I got a Sparcstation 20 with 256MB and ZX frame buffer. It booted fairly
well
Debian weezy but I'm looking for a up to date OS to put on it. OpenBSD
support
Sparc 32 in the last release and I started to install it. I got some memory
errors and finally desktop is not loading at all. I had to put diag-switch
to
true and start self test. J0201 have a defect dimm. Replace, same thing.
Switch the j0201 on j0203 to isolate j0201 socket. J0203 is ok. Replace the
dimm at his place, start the machine and got black screen and compose on.
The service manuel tells me that the j0201 dimm is bad and the diag-switch
test-all too, I think the dimm
socket is bad because the socket seem cracked. This could be dry plastic
issue
due to aging.
Anyway, it is a possibility to align ram to dimm 01 instead of dimm 00?

Hi Eric
Sweet machine.
Might be age related build up of gunk/oxidation. Suggest that you clean
the DIMM slot and the pins on the DIMM with some spray electrical
cleaner (no idea if thats safe or recommended but it worked for me) and
then replace. I had a similar issue which I posted about only a week or
so back. Machine is working a treat now and the module in question now
passes.
Then again it could be bad DIMMM in which case replacement is probably
on the cards.

Thanks Richard for your follow up. I will clean the dimm slot with
electronic 99% alcool because and will retest ram again.
Contact clean contain petrol solvent and it not the best for cleaning
mainboard sockets. It's more recommended for cleaningB connectors.
Yesterday was a hot evening and this not helped me to diagnose my
SPARCstation. I'll do a follow up here after cleaning.
But my question about memory slot configuration with openboot remain
unanswered. It is possible to setup dimm 01to be the first simm to align
the ram?
