Didn't think about the documentation and instructions...
A lot of the original SGI documentation was mirrored before they took
down the old TechPubs webite last year. See

For model-specific boot commands, see

Those write-ups are good for using the CD images, but this will involve
a lot of disc swapping. There are some write-ups for doing installations
over the network which you might be interested in, from various
platforms. But you might need a running IRIX system to pull the packages
off the CDs if you can't get at a flavor of Linux that can read the EFS
filesystems. Uh, consider it an opportunity to do a trial run, get the
packages, and then do it "right" ...
