You did say that you checked the Sun documentation already, but I
found a page suggesting that there's a 7-segment LED on the 
motherboard showing POST progress codes.  If you haven't already
found that, seems like it might be helpful.  Or maybe this doesn't 
apply to your particular model.  In any case, here it is:
